Botanical Illustration

Fine technique, the ability to empathize volume and expression of color - all of this are feature of a quality botanical illustration

  • Botanical illustration is for fans of meditation over a sheet of paper. For those who like to painstakingly deduce subtle lines, patiently to achieve transparency and at the same time, juiciness of color, voluminous realism.
  • Flowers are delicate and we will learn to draw and paint them the same way. Gently. During the course, we will learn subtle flying (and at the same time) precise lines.
  • Expression and sharp colors in the classical botanical illustration are not appreciated. Exaggerate the color, hypertrophy of forms - all this is possible, of course - but only after we learn to restrain our colour palette.

Course outline:

  • Let's start with the basics. We will practice drawing and hatching in the context of botanical illustration.
  • Learn to carefully mix colors (remember about restraint?). Let's get to work with color: we'll do a variety of washing, filling, gradients.
  • We will pay attention to the subtle sketches, airy petals.
